Referrals to the Genitourinary medicine Service:
Patients can be referred to the Sandyford verbally or preferably bysending a referral letter. A letter sent with the patient or by post will ensure that there will be a written reply with the outcome of the consultation returned to the surgery. Correspondence is not routinely sent out by Genitourinary Medicine without a referral letter.

Genitourinary Medicine Service (GUM) Offers confidential expert advice, accurate diagnosis and treatment for all sexual health issues for both men and women including:
  • counselling, care and support for all sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV and Hepatitis as well as other conditions such as cystitis, thrush and genital skin problems
  • immediate diagnosis in most cases
  • treatment by specialists
  • prescriptions dispensed free of charge at Sandyford
The GUM prefers patients to be referred for booked appointments, however there is also a drop-in service which is available Monday to Friday.  Any patient who arrives before 10am wil be seen that day, however patients should be made aware that they may face a wait as this service is very popular.  This wait can sometimes be some hours.  Doors open at 8am .
